Varun Arjun University, organized a special guest lecture on “Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare” on 13th August 2026, by Dr. Syed Najeeb Tirmizi, MD, an internationally renowned medical informatics expert from the United States.
Dr. Tirmizi highlighted that AI is designed not to replace doctors but to support them with timely information, alerts and assistance in clinical decision-making. He discussed its growing applications in diagnosis, medical imaging, clinical decision support, patient monitoring, medical records and hospital administration. He explained how AI can assist radiologists in analyzing medical images and prioritizing critical cases, support early identification of warning signs in conditions such as sepsis, and contribute to advances in digital pathology.
He emphasized that AI-generated content and recommendations must be reviewed and approved by clinicians before being incorporated into medical records. Human oversight, ethical considerations and professional responsibility, he stressed, must remain central to the use of AI.
Discussing India’s healthcare landscape, Dr. Tirmizi emphasized the need for validation using local patient data, data quality, interoperability, patient privacy and cybersecurity before widespread AI adoption.
The programme was graced by Dr. Ashok Agarwal, Pro Chancellor, and Dr. Kiran Agarwal, Vice Chancellor, Varun Arjun University.

Undergraduate and postgraduate students of Varun Arjun Medical College and students of the Pharmacy, and other constituent colleges participated, gaining valuable insights into the present and future applications of AI in healthcare.
