Varun Arjun University Hosts IKS Programme on “Food as a Medicine” under NEP 2020

Varun Arjun University organized a special and inspiring programme on the theme “Indian Knowledge System (IKS): Food as a Medicine”. The event was hosted by Dr. Pradeep Singh, IKS Chairperson and Principal of Varun Arjun College of Pharmacy. The programme was conducted under the framework of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, with Dr. Poornima Bhat serving as the NEP Sarthi Coordinator.

The objective of the event was to highlight the importance of traditional Indian dietary wisdom and promote the concept of “Food as a Medicine” rooted in Indian knowledge traditions, culture, and Ayurveda.

The programme commenced with a vibrant Food Exhibition presented by students, showcasing traditional Indian dishes along with their nutritional and therapeutic benefits. Rudra Pratap Singh and Simranjit Kaur (B.Sc. Nursing) secured first place, followed by Surbhi and Supriyanjali (MBBS) in second place. Prakash Vishwas and Shobha Devi (Pharmacy) stood third, while Navya and Layva (B.Sc. Forensic) secured fourth position.

The Chief Guest and Pro-Chancellor, Dr. Ashok Agarwal, highlighted various dimensions of the Indian Knowledge System and emphasized the dietary principles suggested by Acharya Charaka, stressing timely meals, mindful eating, and balanced nutrition.

Vice-Chancellor Dr. Kiran Agarwal elaborated on the nutritional significance of millets (Shri Anna) such as bajra, jowar, and ragi, encouraging their regular inclusion in a balanced diet for preventing lifestyle-related diseases.

The programme witnessed the presence of senior university officials, faculty members, and a large number of students, and concluded successfully with a formal vote of thanks.
