The Department of Community Medicine at Varun Arjun Medical College & Rohilkhand Hospital, Banthra, Shahjahanpur, observed World No Tobacco Day 2026 on May 30 under the guidance of HOD of community medicine department Dr. Dharmendra kumar Gupta ,with a series of awareness and educational activities aimed at highlighting the harmful effects of tobacco use and promoting tobacco cessation.
This year’s global theme, “Unmasking the Appeal – Countering Nicotine and Tobacco Addiction,” focuses on exposing the tactics used by the tobacco industry and encouraging healthier lifestyle choices among the public.
As part of the observance, a Seminar on Tobacco Cessation organized at Lecture Theatre-7 (LT-7) at 11:00 AM. The session was presented by Dr. Raghav and moderated by Dr. Aditya Prakash Singh.
To further engage students and healthcare workers, a Health Education Video Competition was conducted at the RHTC and UHTC Centres, while awareness activities on the harmful effects of tobacco consumption also took place at these centres under the guidance of interns and faculty members.
In addition, educational videos highlighting the health hazards associated with tobacco use were displayed in the patient waiting area, helping to spread awareness among patients and visitors.
The Department of Community Medicine has encouraged all students, interns, and faculty members to actively participate in the events and contribute to the campaign against tobacco addiction.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Dharmendra Kumar Gupta, Professor and Head of the Department of Community Medicine, emphasized the importance of collective efforts in reducing tobacco consumption and creating a healthier society.
World No Tobacco Day is observed annually on May 31 to raise awareness about the serious health risks linked to tobacco use and to advocate for effective measures to reduce tobacco consumption worldwide. The observance at the institution reflects its commitment to public health promotion and community awareness.
