Day13: SWASTH NARI, SASHAKT PARIVAR ABHIYAN: Poshan Awareness Camp

Varun Arjun Medical College and Rohilkhand Hospital under Varun Arjun University, Banthra, Shahjahanpur, organized a ‘POSHAN Awareness Camp’ on September 30, 2025, as part of Thirteenth day ‘Swasth Naari, Sashakt Parivaar Abhiyan’. The event, spearheaded by the Community Medicine Department under the guidance of Dr. Dharmendra Kumar Gupta, aimed to promote healthy dietary practices and awareness in the community, aligning with the national ‘POSHAN Abhiyan’ (National Nutrition Mission).
The camp featured key activities like balanced diet counseling, a Nutrition Plate Model demonstration to illustrate the right ratio of macronutrients, and a Food Basket Display of easily available local ingredients.
A crucial component was the special lecture by Dr. Aditya Prakash Singh on Annaprashan (the introduction of complementary feeding, typically around 6 months). He stressed the critical importance of the ‘First 1000 Days of Life’ (conception to age two) for preventing irreversible issues like growth retardation. Starting timely, appropriate, and nutrient-dense complementary feeding after six months is vital since breast milk alone no longer meets the baby’s increasing needs for nutrients like iron and zinc.

The college management affirmed that the event was a responsible commitment toward the national mission, emphasizing health education and prevention over cure. The overall goal was to empower the community to take charge of their health and contribute to long-term positive change in the nation’s nutrition landscape.
