The Department of Community Medicine, Varun Arjun Medical College & Rohilkhand Hospital (VAMC&RH), Banthra, Shahjahanpur, successfully organized an ICMR-STS Oriented Hands-On Workshop CME for MBBS and Postgraduate Students today under the guidance of HOD community medicine Dr. Dharmendra Kumar Gupta . The workshop was aimed at encouraging undergraduate and postgraduate medical students to actively participate in research and develop quality research proposals under the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) Short-Term Studentship (STS) Programme.
The event was organized under the patronage of Dr. Keshav Agarwal, Chancellor, Varun Arjun University; Dr. Ashok Kumar Agarwal, Pro-Chancellor, Varun Arjun University; Dr. Lata Agarwal, Vice-Chancellor, Bareilly International University; and Dr. Kiran Agarwal, Vice-Chancellor, Varun Arjun University.
The programme commenced with a welcome address by Dr. (Col.) Ravindra Nath Shukla, Dean and Principal, VAMC&RH, followed by the inauguration ceremony. Dr. Ashok Kumar Agarwal, Pro-Chancellor, Varun Arjun University, delivered the keynote overview of the CME and highlighted the importance of research, innovation, and evidence-based medical practice in modern healthcare.
The workshop was chaired by Dr. Dharmendra Kumar Gupta, Professor and Head, Department of Community Medicine. The event was coordinated by Dr. Purva Shoor, Professor, Community Medicine, and Dr. Ajay Agarwal, Professor, Community Medicine. The organizing secretary was Dr. Mohammad Intekhab Alam Chand, Professor, Community Medicine, while Dr. Shivani Gupta, Quality Manager, VAMC&RH, served as Organizing Co-Secretary.
During the academic sessions, Dr. Dharmendra Kumar Gupta provided a comprehensive orientation on the ICMR-STS programme, explaining eligibility criteria, project duration, and its importance for medical students. Anvita Saxena (MBBS Batch 2023-24) shared her experience and guided participants regarding the online application and selection process.
25-26 MBBS students Avishi and Rupali kushwaha anchored on dice and coordinated the program very well
Some other MBBS 25-26 batch students made colorful and vibrant rangoli and some of them sang saraswati vandana at the start of the program.
Technical sessions on research methodology and proposal writing were delivered by distinguished faculty members including Dr. Vinayak H. Kashyap (Associate Professor, Community Medicine), who discussed research writing and methodology; Dr. Bikash Gairola (Professor, Pharmacology), who explained research title selection and the PICOT framework; and Dr. S.B. Gupta, Ex-Dean & Principal, SRMS IMS Bareilly and Medical Advisor, FH Medical, Agra, who elaborated on formulating scientific objectives using FINER and SMART criteria.
Sessions on innovation and research design were conducted by Mr. Cloudius Lazarus, Co-Founder & CEO, Bareilly Maditech Incubation & Innovation Labs (BMIIL) and Dr. Mohammad Intekhab Alam Chand, who discussed study designs, sampling techniques, and sample size determination. Ethical aspects of research and Institutional Ethics Committee (IEC) approvals were explained by Dr. Poornima S. Bhatt, Professor, ENT, while Dr. Purva Shoor delivered a session on research citation, Vancouver referencing style, plagiarism, and the responsible use of Artificial Intelligence in research.
