Varun Arjun Medical College & Rohilkhand Hospital, under Varun Arjun University, Banthra-Shahjahanpur, grandly organized a “Maternal Health Awareness Camp” on the second day of its “Swasth Naari, Sashakt Parivar Abhiyan – 2025.”
The camp was led by Dr. Santhanam Sampath, Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Senior Professor Dr. Renu Garg, with active participation from other doctors and postgraduate students of the department.
The program was inaugurated jointly by Principal and Dean Dr. (Col.) Ravindra Nath Shukla, HOD Dr. Santhanam Sampath, and Senior Professor Dr. Renu Garg.
The main objective of the camp was to raise awareness about the importance of maternal health among pregnant women and new mothers.
Dr. (Col.) Ravindra Nath Shukla, Principal and Dean of Varun Arjun Medical College & Rohilkhand Hospital, also shared his thoughts, stating that motherhood is the most important phase in any woman’s life. He said, “Our university is not limited to medical education; it is also our responsibility to meet the health-related needs of society. This camp on maternal health is a part of this responsibility.”
Dr. Santhanam Sampath, Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, stated that , “A healthy mother is the foundation of a healthy baby.” Dr. Renu Garg, Senior Doctor (Professor) of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, said, “Awareness is the most effective way to reduce maternal and infant mortality rates.”
Women who participated in the camp shared their experiences, saying that they received a lot of important information related to motherhood from the program. They also said that they would now be more aware of diet, exercise, and health check-ups during pregnancy. Many participants praised the university’s effort and said that such initiatives are the best way to deliver healthcare services to rural women.
At the closing of the program, the senior management of the university—Hon’ble Chancellor Dr. Keshav Kumar Agarwal, Pro-Chancellor Dr. Ashok Agarwal, and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Kiran Agarwal—issued a joint statement. They said, “We are all proud of the success of this camp. Maternal health is a crucial topic for society, and this effort by the university is a major contribution in this direction. Providing health-related information to pregnant women and mothers not only protects their lives but also secures the future of the coming generation.”
The event was actively attended by Dr. Dharmendra Gupta, H.O.D. of Community Medicine; Dr. Nilesh Doshi, Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology; Dr. P.S. Pawar Medical Superintendent of Rohilkhand Hospital; Dr. Amit Kumar Singh Deputy Medical Superintendent; Sachin Chauhan Digital Media In-charge; along with many other senior doctors, the entire team of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, nursing staff, and a large number of students.
